About the topic
Construction of this new town has commenced and over 1000 houses are already occupied. There is planning permission for 2,900 houses in the first phase. 30% of the first one thousand homes are to be affordable – 65% allocated to people on East Devon’s Housing Register, 35% to Exeter City Council. The amount of affordable housing in later phases will be lower. A primary school has been built and is now open. A secondary school and sports facilities has been built and is now open. There is a centralised heat and power facility at Skypark. The Clyst Valley Regional Park is being developed to create a high quality landscape, green spaces andnwildlife corridors and providing/enhancing cycling and walking opportunities.
The next phase of Cranbrook has now started, with the construction of the town centre, railway station, and further housing. 7,500 houses are planned until 2031.
Associated with Cranbrook are the new Science Park and Skypark.
CPRE was opposed to the development of Cranbrook. It is being built on prime agricultural land, and has brought massive development to East Devon with increased pressure on infrastructure and few benefits for the rest of the District.
