About the topic
This quarry has been the subject of a number of planning applications. The original PA was for Gilpins Demolition to use the quarry for the processing and landfill of the Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) from the huge MVV Incinerator at Plymouth – some 65.000 tonnes per annum. This was refused by the DCC, a decision that went to appeal and was upheld by the Planning Inspectorate. Gilpins have returned to the charge with another PA; this time for the processing of other waste. This PA is being opposed by all the same players as before.
This series of planning applications has exposed the weakness of the Devon Waste Plan, now going for its Examination in Public (EiP) in July. The MVV Incinerator will be completed and ready for operations in early 2015 with, as yet, no destination for its IBA!
