Devon’s Biggest Solar Farm -September 2020

There is still time to submit your objection to North Devon District Council to an application for what would be Devon’s biggest solar installation – at Litchardon Cross, Newton Tracey near Barnstaple, North Devon.
The proposed solar installation would extend about a mile from north to south and about a mile from east to west, making it by far the biggest solar farm in Devon. It is sited on both sides of the major tourist route between Barnstaple and Bideford, and would be split into several segments, each one surrounded by a high fence. As it would adjoin an existing solar farm it would be highly visible in a landscape which has been shown to be very sensitive to large solar developments, in addition it would encompass two existing wind turbines. In our opinion the cumulative effect of these installations will result in the industrialisation of a large area of farmland which will blight this rural area for a period of 35 years. In other words, it would look horrendous. We have submitted a strong objection to this application and we urge you to add your voice to the many who object to this totally unsuitable project. Even though the consultation formally ended on the 27th August, objections will still be accepted.
